Tricky Dice Magic
Two dice are used to magically predict the age of your friend. You will need two dice and a friend of whom you already know their age.
Before we start we need a secret number to make the prediction work. Lets call it the age number. This is calculated by subtracting 21 from your friends age.
Note: If your friend is younger than 21, this will be a negative number, but don’t worry the trick will still work.
Note: Remember the age number, but of course make no mention of it to your friend ... we will use it later.
Ask your friend to roll the two dice a few times to prove that they are not rigged props.
Now, ask them to roll the dice one more time and tell them to follow these instructions:
Place one die on top of the other and remember the number on the top die.
Pick this die up and add this number to the number shown on the bottom of the die.
Now look at the number on the top of the die that is still on the table and add this to your total.
Now add the age number calculated earlier to the total, or indeed subtract the age number if it was below zero.
Note: Of course you must tell your friend this number, but just pretend it is a random number.
Throw the die currently in your hand and add to the total the number shown on the top once it has landed.
Now carefully slide the two dice together, turn them over and add these two numbers to the total. And ... the total will equal the age of your friend!
